Ant Hills or Mountains?

27 06 2009

So a few days ago a good friend of mine, David, shot me this passage via text message:

Matt. 21:23-27

David pulled a thought out that was pretty interesting. He said that we, like the Pharisees, become paralyzed by the voices of the crowd. When we do this, Jesus chooses not to act.

Great point!

I continued to think through this a little more over the next day or so and went and read the passage again and this time read Matt. 21:18-27.

Matthew 21:18-27 brought some context to my thinking. Jesus tells the disciples that with faith and prayer nothing is impossible and that they could even move mountains. For me the issue here is that I often limit God to moving ant hills and not mountains. Most people don’t dream mountain sized dreams and pray mountain sized prayers. We are satisfied with God helping us close this next deal, helping us get a passing grade on a paper, or adding another 3% growth to our church again this year.

What if God’s real desire was to move a mountain on your behalf? How would you pray? What would you dream?

Then I read Matt. 21:23-27 and now Jesus is limited when we listen to the voices of the crowd instead of doing what He has asked. That lead me to post this Twitter update that still has me dreaming God sized dreams today.

via Twitter…

“Matt. 21:18-26 Will u be limited by the voices of the crowd or will Jesus move mountains on you behalf? Dont listen to the crowd. Pray big!”

What God sized dream has been growing inside of you that you have pushed aside because of the voices of the crowd? What great thing do you believe God can do through you if only you had the courage to start asking for it through prayer?

Ministry Pharisee

2 01 2009

Reading John 7 today it became apparent to me that I often critize other ministries that God is using to do great things. That is a pharisee!

Many times Jesus taught and did miracles and the Pharisees rejected Him. Here is John 7 they reject Him for several reasons, but one was because He is from Galilee. Galilee was not the place the Messiah was supposed to come from.

What do you do when the movement of God in your city comes from another place? Another ministry? Do you reject, criticize, and blog crap about them,  because it is not your ministry or do you believe and give glory to God?

I pray that as we launch Columbia Church we will embrase the activity of God that is happening in other places in our city. Places like Dutch Fork Christian ChurchAwaken Columbia , and East Lake Community Church , Newspring, and many others!

God move and may I not be a pharisee…

Like a 2×4 to the face

So I was readig and journaling yesterday and came across this passage in John 6.

John 6:27-28

26Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.”

So I began to ask myself, Do I desire Jesus because of the blessings he can provide, “because you ate the loaves and had your fill”, or because we want Him?

Ask that question in the context of how you pray for and lead your church, your family, your buisness, and your own life and you will be changed. I know I have desired Jesus for the blessings He can bring and not for who He is.

God help me long for you alone and not the blessings you can provide!

How does that fall on you?

I don’t know if you have ever been completely humbled by what God was doing in your life, but I am there.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday I had the provilage of having dinner with my family, but also with Dr. Ramesh Richards. He is a professor at Dallas Theological Seminary and friends with my father. Dr Remesh is a leader in the Christian Community and a wealth of knowledge. It was humbling to talk to him about what God was doing in my life, planting Columbia Church, and even more humbling to hear him pray a blessing over me and my family as we pursue Gods plan. It was a pleasure spend Thanksgiving with him and his family.

I have discovered that when I make myself aware of Gods presents and acknowledge it I am brought to this place of humility often. God has called and equipped me to plant a new church in Columbia. I know little about planting a church, but God has also given me relationships with several people who are church planting geniuses. Men like David McDaniel, and the North Point Church expansion team, the team at Elevation Chruch, and Jeff Shipman with Crossroads Community Church. As God moves in Columbia Church and lost people find Christ it will be because of the investment of these men and their churches.

I am humbled… How is God humbling you?

Thank you God for all you are doing.

“For Gods call you are inadequate, but you are not incompetant.” Dr. Remesh Richard
